Water Street runs along the east side of the river, and the pub sits on it at number 295 — close enough to downtown Kent that you can eat somewhere else, walk over, and still catch the second half. The kitchen's range is pub-wide: pizzas, wings, a long list of things meant to be pushed into the middle of a table. The bar stays up until 2:30am, seven nights a week.
Walk in and the room explains itself in about four seconds: a bar with screens above it, and pizzas going out on branded liners. Nothing here is themed and nothing is pretending to be a restaurant with a bar bolted onto the side. The Nut House is a pub and grille in the plain sense of both words — sit at a table and eat a full meal, or take a stool and work through wings with something on above your head.
The shareables list is where the kitchen has the most fun. Reuben rolls arrive stuffed with house corned beef, kraut, Swiss, and Thousand Island. Wisconsin cheese curds come fried with marinara. Jalapeno poppers are bacon-wrapped and packed with sausage and cream cheese. The Bavarian pretzel comes with stadium mustard, honey mustard, and spicy aioli, and cod bites land in boom boom sauce. Buffalo chicken dip, candied bacon and onion dip, and grilled artichokes cover the table that wants to graze rather than commit.
Craft pizzas hold the center of the menu. Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza is pepperoni and mozzarella under Mike's Hot Honey. Deluxe Pizza loads pepperoni, sausage, bacon, onion, peppers, and mushrooms. BBQ Chicken Pizza brings grilled chicken, bacon, red onion, and a three-cheese blend, and One Topping BYO Pizza exists for people with opinions, with extra toppings at 1.50. Jumbo wings come traditional or boneless, tossed in one sauce, and they travel well to a table full of people watching something.
None of that is complicated food and none of it is trying to be. It is the kind of menu that rewards a table of four who cannot agree on one thing, which in a college town is most tables.
Ordering ahead is the fastest way in. The Toast storefront linked from this site takes online orders for pickup, which is what you want if the pizza is going home in a box rather than onto a table. It is the same storefront whether you are ordering one pie or five, and it is open whenever the kitchen is.
For anything that needs a person, call the pub on (330) 548-9183. A large group on a Saturday, a question about how hot the hot honey actually is, a pizza you want held until you can get down Water Street — that is a phone call, not a form.
Either way it is the same kitchen, the same pizzas and the same wings — the only difference is whether you eat them on a liner here or out of a box somewhere else.
Monday through Friday the doors open at 11am and stay open until 2:30am. Saturday and Sunday the pub opens two hours earlier, at 9am, and keeps the same 2:30am close — so a weekend here can start with brunch and end well after last call without anybody having to change rooms.
That shape is worth planning around. A weekday lunch is quiet and quick. Early evening fills up with people who finished work and did not feel like cooking. Weekend mornings are the only hours the room is genuinely bright. And late is properly late: the bar is still running long after the rest of downtown Kent has gone quiet.
